World’s Largest Wi-Fi Network In Place

Do you know that soon NSW will have the largest centrally-controlled wireless network in the world? Soon Wi-Fi will be covering every school in the state.

The large $70 million networks will see 22,000 access points which will be deployed across NSW schools. It will fully cover each campus and the requirements of each of the state's 200,000 students. Even some of the schools will have their Wi-Fi wireless connectivity boosted from a single classroom to cover the entire school.
This particular project is mainly run by IBM. It will be finished in July when the second and final phase of the deployment will be completed. This particular network is on par with and will soon exceed the equivalent wireless network that is used by the United States Air force. It is one of the largest centrally-monitored networks in the world.

This new network is constantly neck-and-neck with the US Air force.
The particular 300Mbps Wi-Fi network will use the 802.11n standard over Aruba wireless hardware. This network will be able to provide wireless Internet connectivity (Wi-Fi) for hundreds of nine to 12 year students who are also being issued with Lenovo ThinkPad Mini 10 laptops.

For about 66,000 laptops were handed out to nine year students last year by the Department under the Federal Government’s $2.2 billion Digital Education Revolution initiative. The department itself has dedicated some 500 IT staff to support the laptop deployment. Therefore this new world’s largest Wi-Fi network will definitely bring a new change for all Wi-Fi networks.
