Wi-Fi connects New York subways

If you are a daily commuter in New York subways you are surely in for a pleasant surprise. MTA or The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is all set to install Wi-Fi routers in some of the major New York subway stations by this year end.

If reports are all to be believed, two of the busiest subway stations in New York namely- Pennsylvania Station and Grand Central Terminal will be tuning up to Wi-Fi connectivity.

Aaron Donovan, MTA spokesman recently announced about this new venture. On completion of this landmark project, people traveling on the busy subways of New York can stay connected by linking up to the Wi-Fi hotspots, soon to be installed in the Penn station and the Grand Central.

If this pilot project rolls out pretty well, the MTA authorities are expected to boost their plan and even extend the proposed Wi-Fi route up to Long Island and Metro-North extension lines.

This landmark project was initiated in the fall of 2009 and till now, it has received interest from all quarters of society. In this connection, one must take into account the recent budget cuts in the aftermath of the recession. However, the Wi-Fi project undertaken by MTA has rolled on smoothly towards completion ever since its inception.

With this new Wi-Fi project connecting subway stations, you can soon stay connected to your online buddies and perform a variety of Internet-related tasks while traveling on one of the busiest underground railroads of New York.
