Turn Off Your File Sharing On Windows XP

You will find that most of your Home PC's do not need File & Printer Sharing enabled, but most are setup from the manufacturer to allow file sharing on Windows XP. But if you will find that you are not well versed in file security, you can simply turn on file and printer sharing on a home PC which will reduce the risk of Trojans and Viruses. Therefore you have to learn that how can you turn off your file sharing on Windows XP.

Firstly go to your PC control panel by selecting your "START" button and then select the "Control Panel" from the main menu. There if you find that your control panel is not in "CLASSIC VIEW", select the link on the left side of the window to change views in your Windows XP.

Remember to select the "Network Connections" ICON from the control panel. By this step you will open a window and will show you network connections on your Wind. You may try to have multiple connections, but typically the title will be "local area connection". This step will allow you to have the words "connected" underneath as well as the ICON will be "colorized" if active; all other connections will be "grayed out". Now just right click on your local area connection. Then right click on your connection "Local Area Connection" and select "Properties" from the pop up menu in your Windows XP.

From your "Local Area Connection Properties" box, deselect the "File and Printer Sharing" option and press OK. After this you may or may not be able to reboot your PC for the settings to take effect, but it is recommended. Remember that after the reboot no files can be accessed from anywhere remotely.
Therefore by following these steps you can easily turn off your file sharing on Windows XP.
