Turn Off File Sharing In Windows XP

You can even turn off your file sharing on Windows XP. Most of your home PC's do not need File & Printer Sharing enabled. But you will notice that most are setup from the manufacturer to allow file sharing. Always keep in mind that if you are not versed in with file security, you can simply turn on file and printer sharing on a home PC.

Just follow these simple steps to turn off file sharing on Windows XP.
• At first go to your PC control panel by selecting the "START" button and then select the "Control Panel" from the main menu.
• Now change this to Classic View
• If you find that your control panel is not in "CLASSIC VIEW", select the link on the left side of the window to change views.
• From here try to select network connections
• Then remember to select the "Network Connections" ICON from the control panel. This step will open up a window and that will show you all network connections on your PC.
• If you want you may have multiple connections, but typically the title will be "local Area Connection". It will have the words "connected" underneath as well as the ICON that will be "colorized" if active. Remember that all other connections will be "grayed out".
• Next just right Click on local area connection. Then just right click on the connection "Local Area Connection" and select "Properties" from the pop up menu.
• In your file & printer Sharing Options, under the "Local Area Connection Properties" box, unselect the "File and Printer Sharing" option and press OK.
• Always remember that you may or may not have to reboot your PC for the settings to take effect, but it is recommended.
• After you reboot no files can be accessed from anywhere remotely.

By following these steps you can easily turn off your file sharing on Windows XP.
