Delta in-flight Wi-Fi Is Getting More Popularity

Do you know that more than 430 aircraft on Delta's mainline fleet are now equipped with Wi-Fi service while passengers are above 10,000 feet in the air. And also more than 1 million customers have logged onto the digital mile-high club.

Delta is one of the first major airlines in US to sign onto in-flight Wi-Fi and commit to bring the option to every one of its hundreds of planes. Delta is offering this particular service through a company called Aircell.

You have seen that Aircell launched its "Gogo" in-flight Internet Wi-Fi service in 2008. They even premiered the service with the revolutionary new airline Virgin America. This particular idea of surfing the Web high above the sky was too good to resist. Therefore seeing this, other airlines quickly signed on with it.

Well Delta was itself Gogo's third customer, after American Airlines. You will find that Aircell now deals with virtually every major US-based airline for its Wi-Fi service. But there is an exception as Southwest Airlines does offer in-flight Wi-Fi service but they do it through a competing service from Row 44.

Those entire Deltas’s Boeing 737-700, 737-800, 767-300, and 757-200, along with all its McDonnel Douglas MD88 and MD90 aircraft have been outfitted with Wi-Fi. Even those remaining planes will be completed by the end of summer.

This can cost you around $10 - $13 to purchase Wi-Fi access during a flight which depends on the duration. Even Gogo is offering $50 monthly subscription package for its Wi-Fi connection.
